After we had a cherry fresh lime and hamburger from Sandys and got some stuff for the weekend, we were off, up the windy road!
We couldnt check into our "cabin" for awhile so we passed the time by going for a walk and throwing rocks into the lake, the girls love to do that.
The "cabins" up there were built in the 1920's I think and you can tell have been through alot. I think they should build new ones, but that is just my thoughts!!!
After we got our bags unloaded and stuff, we fed the squirrels popcorn. The squirrels up there are huge I am pretty sure that they are some mixed breed cause they dont have bushy tails are they are really fat!
After some really good taco soup, we decided to take the girls fishing!
At first the twins were not to into it, they were having more fun throwing sticks into the lake and finding rocks and old fishing trash!
Grace was having more fun playing with the worms!
But after Grace caught a little fish, all 3 of the girls thought it was pretty cool and then they wanted a fish on there pole too!
Grace is a little fisher women, I think she caught 7 or 8 that night!
Addison was the first on to catch a fish out of the twins, she "rolled" it in all by herself! After she got the fish out of the water Alaynna really wanted one of her pole so she started to pay attention alittle more!
We would throw her pole in and then as soon as we would get it out there she would start to "roll" it back in! She caught one fish right after the other, and she thought it was pretty cool!
Grace got to go out in the little boat for awhile with Kaden and Laura to catch some fish and she caught one so big it broke her line!! She thought that was pretty cool and she told us all about it, like 50 times!
After all of our fishing we went back to our "cabin" and got ready for bed!
The girls and Kyle were pretty tired so they fell asleep fast. Kyle and I share a king bed at home, so this double bed was just not big enough for the two of us, so we we tossed and turned all night. Like when we had newborn twins, up all night, not fun!
Even though we didnt get any sleep, Kyle woke up early to fish, "cause thats what you do when you are at fish lake." So us girls hung out at our place and watched Horten Hears a Who while we got ready. After we look beautiful, we went and found Grandma Nancy and the crew!
After we got to Grandma Nancys cabin we fed a squirrel with left over popcorn, gummy worms, grapes, sunflower seeds and anything else we could find!
Grace, Grandpa Penn and Great Grandpa Leavitt went for a walk and picked us a beautiful bouquet of wildflower that smelled like a skunk!
We just hung out ate lunch then got ready to go out on the pontoon boat to fish. I have never been out on the water in all the years we have been up to fish lake, and I complain every year about it to Kyle, so this year he was bound and determined to get me out on the boat to have a good time.
So we all got out on this boat, start going out from the dock and then all the sudden the front of the boat started to go under water.
Yes, you read it right, we started to sink. After Penn stopped the boat and I stopped swearing, we rearranged on the boat and started to go again!
We all decided it would be best to stay close to the shore just in case we really did sink the boat! The girls, Kaden, Vance, and Laura fished, Great Grandma Leavitt and I were trying to get over our panic attacks, (we both prefer to stay dry and not sink like a rock!) and the rest of the them were just eating and enjoying the day!
We caught a few perch, then Grace got a bite and couldnt quite reel in her pole.
She worked and worked on it and we were all excited to see what she had on the other end of her pole, and when she pulled it up, it was a carp, or sucker fish as Kyle and Grace call them! She named him Mooch and she really wanted to keep him, but she threw him back!
We werent out there for to long before it started to rain so we went back to the cabin and just sat around waiting for the rain to stop and started to make hobo dinners. Kyle went and took a 4 hour nap and came back just in time to make himself a dinner.
Since my first "boat ride" didnt go super great Kyle decide while we were waiting for out Hobo dinners to get done we would go out on the little tin boat. I didnt really want to go, (I super hate the water, especially when fish lake is SOOO deep, no one would ever find my body, I would get ate by fish, AHHHHHHH) But he talked me into it and with the help of Kaden and Penn we were off.
We got clear over to the other side of the lake and started to turn when Kyle said "look at that storm, hopefully it wont start raining till we are back" as he said that it started to sprinkle. I thought we would make it back with out getting to wet cause he started to go as fast as the little boat would go, but the rain just got harder and harder till it was a full on downpour. That was not the scariest part, the thunder and lighting that seemed to be hitting right next to us was the scary part!
We didnt get struck with lighting and we didnt drown and I got to just walk into the cabin and start eating dinner so I guess it wasnt as bad as it could have been!!
After we all had ate, Laura and I went for a little walk to get a ice cream and there were swing dancers having a dance in the lodge. They were all decked out in the whole getup, the majority of them were older than Laura and I, ok all but like 10 were my grandmas age and they were so fun to watch!!
We tried to talk the boys into renting the outfits and going swing dancing, but we all decided to just watch the professionals instead!
We did have a good time this year, even if the boat rides didnt go as we hoped. The girls are all at such fun ages and they all love to be outside catching fish, throwing rock, being the little tomboys they are, that always makes everything better!
Maybe next year the rain will not be as bad and we can go out on the lake a little more!
